Travel Tips and Tricks Tuesday Episode 6
A lot of people, when traveling prefer to use a card to pay for purchases while on a trip. However, that isn't necessarily the safest thing to do. At home, you already know the places that are safest to use a card and what places it is better to use cash. When traveling, you put yourself into places that you are not familiar with. For example, I know that there are places around my hometown that are considered 'high theft' areas. But to someone who is just here on vacation, they don't know about those areas at all. So are more likely to have things stolen.
When traveling my mother and I always take cash with us, and only use our debit or credit cards when absolutely necessary. This significantly lowers the chances of either of us getting our cards compromised and having to go through hoops with the bank to fix things. You don't have to take a lot of cash with you. I only take a couple hundred myself and it works for me. Now granted, on a cruise ship everything is charged to your cabin using the card you were given when you boarded. However, during excursions you are off the ship and any purchases made will have to be paid for. It will not be charged to your cabin. So even when cruising it is still a good idea to take cash with you.
Now I know it is kind of old school, but keeping your money and ID or passport in a phanny pouch and keeping it around your waist with the pouch in front is also a good idea. That way if by any chance you get your purse, backpack, or wallet stolen while on vacation, you still have everything you need and the thief doesn't actually get anything except maybe your souvenirs.
I hope this helps everyone stay safe while traveling this summer.
Until next time my fellow Adventurers!
