Travel Tips and Tricks Episode 12: Cruise Drink Packages
Welcome back my fellow Adventurers to another exciting episode of Travel Tips and Tricks. Last week I talked about 2 great reading apps to have while traveling. This week we are going to talk about cruise drink packages, and whether or not they are worth getting. So let's get started.
I do not know about other cruise lines, but Carnival Cruise Lines does have drink packages. We will talk about 2 of the most popular ones. The first package is called Bottomless Bubbles Package. It cost $8.20 per-child per-day, and $11.21 per-adult per-day. This package covers mainly sodas and juices. All-alcoholic beverages are excluded and you will have to pay full price. Sodas and juices normally cost about $2.75 on a Carnival Cruise. However with the Bottomless Bubbles Package it's all-you-can-drink. There are some restrictions. Such as the packages cannot be shared. Each adult and child will need their own package. Soft drinks will be served in 16oz glasses. Juices will be served in 10oz glasses. The package cannot be used with room service, the interactive tv, or minibar. It's only available for on-board purchases and is non-refundable.
The next package is the Cheers Package. This one cost $82.54 per-person per-day, and you must be 21 or older. This package includes: sodas, juices, alcoholic beverages and wine and spirits under $20 menu price, energy drinks, specialty coffee, hot tea, 500ml water. You cannot exceed 15 alcoholic drinks in a 24 hour period. If your alcoholic beverage is over $20 menu price you will only receive 25% off. In order to use this package you must also agree to not give any alcoholic beverages to minors. Also, according to the Carnival Cruise Line website, applicable state and local taxes will be charged to the guest's folio when this program is used in US waters.
There are also 2 wine packages available as well; however, if you choose not to do a drink package there is another option that Carnival Cruise Lines doesn't really advertise. You are allowed to bring up to a 12pk of canned non-alcoholic beverages of your own like sparkling water, soda, or juice. The package must be un-opened and the drinks must be sealed when you get on the ship. This applies per-person. Adults 21 and older can also bring one 750ml bottle of wine or champagne per-person. Hard liquor, beer, and bottled non-alcoholic drinks are prohibited.
Different cruise lines may have different prices, packages, and rules. So please remember to do your research with the cruise line of your choice, because you never know what may change. My mom and I normally don't do the packages and opt to bring a 12pk of Pepsi cans instead, because for the package to really save you money 1 person would have to drink 15 or more a day. While a 12pk of Pepsi lasted my mom and I through our whole 7 day cruise. I will leave the final decision to you my fellow Adventurers as to whether a drink package is right for you. That wraps up another exciting episode of Travel Tips and Tricks.
Until next time fellow Adventurers!
